A detached one-car garage between the vacant houses at 26 and 30 Granite Street in Mansfield was engulfed in flames at 8:30 Wednesday night.

The two houses sustained minor damage to their siding, but no interior damage.

Fire Chief Steve Strickling says the cause of the blaze has not been determined, but is being investigated as suspicious and possible arson.

Strickling says he is not prepared at this time to say this could be the start of a repeat of last summer's rash of arson fires.

He says multiple suspects are being investigated, but proof of their involvement has not been determined.

One person has been indictedin the arson fire last winter at 74 Hedges Street.

Authorities urge you to keep a close eye on your neighborhood, and for suspicious people, and to call the fire and police departments if you see someoneapproaching or running away from a vacant house.
