The Madison softball team punched their ticket to the regional semifinals at Bucyrus in Division II with a 2-1 eight inning win over the Clyde Fliers.  After the first two innings were scoreless, Madison got on the board first when Katie Clever got a hold of a 3-2 pitch sending it over the center field fence for a home run, her first on the season putting Madison up 1-0 after the top of the third.

Clyde would come back to tie the game at one all in the bottom of the fourth, when Kelsey Michaels doubled to deep center field putting the tying run at second.  Michaels was then singled home off the bat of the next hitter Tara Miracle making the score 1-1 after four innings.

The game would stay that way for the next three innings.  The Fliers kept the pressure on the Rams defense even getting a runner as far as third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Madison was up to the test all game long with error free play in the field.

With the game in extra innings inn the top of the eighth, Madison's Katie Clever hit a pop fly that dropped in shallow center field that Clever turned into a double.  She was bunted to third and with one out, Chase Carper brought her home with a single to left giving Madison a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.

After a lead off single and an out, with a runner on first, Clyde's Tara Miracle popped out to Clever at first, after making the catch Clever was able to beat the runner back to the bag at first making an unassisted double play ending the game and giving the Rams a 2-1 win and the Division II district championship, their first since 1998.

With the win, Madison (24-4) moves on to the D-2 regional semifinal on Wednesday at Bucyrus at 5pm to face Lima Bath who downed Muamee 5-0.  The winner will advance to the regional final on Saturday, June 1st at Bucyrus at noon to face either Oberlin Firelands or Granville.
