The Richland County Sheriff is trying to make ends meet through this year, with adequate staffing and money.

Steve Sheldon met with the commissioners Tuesday morning to tell them two deputies are retiring next month and two more probably will in August, and he'll need money to complete their pay.

That includes buying-out their unused vacation and holiday time, and sick days.

So, he says they have to calculate how that will affect the salary budget, because he wants to fill those positions.

The commissioners expect to have enough money to cover the retiring and newly-hired deputies.

Now, they need to find $82,000 for the final December payroll.

Sheldon says the standard payday in the sheriff's patrol division is $90,000, so with county revenues expected to be more than originally projected, the payroll should be covered.
