The Madison softball team's run to the final four in Akron came up a game shy, as the Rams fell at Bucyrus to Granville by a final score of 2-0, in the Division II regional final.

For the first three innings Granville and Madison were locked in a pitcher's duel with both Abby Barker of Granville and Paige Carper of Madison throwing strikes and letting their defense play behind them.  The Blue Aces would get on the board with what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the fourth, when pitcher Abbey Barker helped her own cause by hitting a triple, then short stop Rachael Holt sacraficed her home giving Granville a 1-0 lead after three and a half.

Although Granville threatened again in the top of the fifth, Madison was able to work out of the jam with Carper getting two fly ball outs with one out and two on.  Blue Aces pitcher Abbey Barker kept the Rams at the plate with three strike outs in the fifth keeping the score 1-0, Granville after five.

Granville would score an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when with one out, both Holt and Grace Imhoff singled, Malia Peterson was safe on an error that scored Holt giving the Aces a 2-0 lead after five and a half.  But Madison would threaten in the bottom on the sixth when after a loud out by Katie Clever to left, Liz Sutter doubled, Chase Carper reached on an error, but Barker struck out Carper, Sarah Cook kept the inning going by drawing a walk to load the bases.  That brought up Makayla Mobley who hit a shot to right field, but Granville's Taylor Drumm was able to make the catch to end the inning and the scoring threat.

After Carper put down the Blue Aces 1, 2, 3, in the top of the seventh, Barker did the same to the Rams getting Katie Mullins to ground out ending the game and Madison's softball tournament run by a final of 2-0.  Pitching wise, Paige Carper struck out two while giving up six hits and two runs.  Granville's Abbey Barker struck out 11, gave up two walks, three hits no runs.  With the loss Madison finishes as OCC, sectional and district champions and D-2 regional runner-up at 25-5.  Granville improves to 24-6 and moves on to the D-2 state semifinal Friday, June 7th at 5:30pm at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
