The Ashland Fire Department will be purchasing a new exhaust system for the station thanks to a grant from FEMA.

Ashland City Council approved a resolution Tuesday at their regular meeting to accept the funding issued by the Federal Emergency Management Association Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

Fire chief Rick Anderson said the department applied for the grant in 2012.

"It will give us the ability to install an exhaust system in the station to help funnel fumes outside of the building," Anderson said.

Anderson said the next step will be to go to bid for the exhaust system, contact various manufactures of the vent systems for pricing and then proceed with the project.

In other business, council approved a resolution to enter into a renewal of a $411,000 agreement with Ashland County to continue operation of the joint 911 emergency and dispatch systems.
