Man wanted in Ashland baby abuse case found in Mansfield

Ashland Police and federal marshals arrest a man wanted in connection with a case in which a 6-month-old boy suffered severe burns to his left hand and buttocks.

Kris Swineford, 34, of Ashland was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in a house on Fairfax Avenue in Mansfield.  He also was wanted on felony charges of tampering with evidence in an unrelated narcotics case.

Ashland Police say on June 28, an officer went to an apartment where Swineford was staying in connection with the narcotics case. While there the officer discovered a baby with a large burn on his buttocks and left hand that was left untreated.

The baby's mother, Tiffany Kearns, 24,  tried to conceal the burns.  She was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence.

The baby and another child in the home were removed from the residence.  Police still aren't sure how the baby was burned, or who is responsible for those injuries.
