The Mansfield-Ontario-Richland County Health Department went to Mansfield Memorial Home Apartments at 10 Blymyer Avenue Tuesday.

They were investigating a report the apartments, occupied by senior citizens, had bed bugs

Sanitarians Jennifer Frazier and Andrea Barnes met with Executive Director Ray Loughman, and an Orkin man who showed-up for his weekly spraying.

They looked at one room that had a bed bug, and was sprayed last week.

Frazier says the bug was found to still be in a couch, but was not moving.

She says the bed bug problem is being managed as well as possible and she considers it a minor issue.

Loughman says he's spent thousands of dollars trying to protect the elderly residents from bed bugs and the itching their bites cause, and says the bugs are brought in when residents go to second hand stores and they're attached to the clothing or furniture the residents bring back.

He urges Mansfield Memorial Homes residents to immediately report any bed bugs, so they can be sprayed.

He says too many residents wait a week or two before saying something.
