The 47th annual Shiloh Ox Roast is underway, with melt-in-your-mouth beef sandwiches being served Friday morning at the Shiloh fire station.

Residents lined-up for sandwiches and take-home supplies of the tender, tasty beef they get only once a year.

Individual sandwiches cost $3, with a container to hold enough for ten sandwiches costing $30.  Other food items cost $1 or $2.

The 8,300 pounds of beef, which comes from cows not oxen, costs about $20,000, but the two-day event should net $40,000 to $50,000 for the fire department to purchase equipment.

The Shiloh Ox Roast includes children's rides, a tractor pull, live bands, and a 100-entry parade starting at 7 pm Saturday.
