The 179th Airlift Wing had a VIP visit Wednesday.

The Air National Guard base at Mansfield Lahm Airport was toured by four members of the National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force.

The commission was formed by Congress to visit Air Force and Air National Guard bases to study its active, reserve, and guard components and how well each is fulfilling its mission.

Chairman Dennis McCarthy, a retired Lt. General in the Marine Corps, says he's impressed with the base, its people, and the community support for it.

This visit gave the Ohio National Guard's leader, Adjutant General Deborah Ashenhurst, a chance to show the officials how cost-effectively the guard can serve its country.

The commission also toured Wright-Patterson Air Force base near Dayton and the Springfield and Rickenbacher Air National Guard bases.

The panel must submit a report to Congress and President Obama by February first.
