Original Published: 8/14/2013A large improvement project is nearing completion at Malabar Intermediate School in Mansfield. Facilities Director Robert Booth says the new central air condtioning and two new energy-efficient boilers will result in a more comfortable building, and save money on energy.  The project includes new lighting in the offices, classrooms, and gym with sensors to turn them on when someone enters and turn them off when the room is empty. A $2.9-million loan from the Ohio School Facilities Commission makes the improvements possible. The loan will be paid back with the estimated $250,000 to $350,000 in annual savings. New lighting was also installed in other Mansfield schools, and Newman Elementary has new boilers.  The work should be done by the time schools open Aug. 29.
