Two Injured In One-Car Accident In Marion County

  Original Published: 9/1/2013 Two people were injured in a one-vehicle accident that happened at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on Smeltzer Road, just south of Marion-Cardington Road in Pleasant Township in Marion County. The State Highway Patrol says Jon Gwinner, 35, of Marion, was driving his car, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, northbound on Smeltzer Road when it traveled off the road and struck a large rock and tree. Gwinner was entrapped in the car and had to be extricated by fire and EMS rescue personnel at the scene. He was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and is listed in serious condition. His passenger, Katherine Smith, 27, of Marion, also was injured and taken to Marion General Hospital and later transferred to Grant Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. The accident remains under investigation. The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Pleasant Township Fire Department, Marion Township Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff's Department and MedCare EMS.
