Original Published: 9/1/2013 Gold Rush Days at the Swank Claim on the bank of the Clear Fork River in Bellville took place this past weekend near the River Trail Crossing Campgrounds in southern Richland County. Dennis Staskiewicz is president of the Buckeye Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America who says the event began back in 1998. Ronald Doak is one gold prospector from Sidney, Ohio, who says his father got him started in panning for gold and did it with him until his death from bone cancer in 2011. There are three gold claims in Ohio with the Swank Claim in Bellville, the Frazee Claim off Zuck Road, 13 miles east of Mount Vernon in Knox County, and the Lewis Claim below Lucasville in the southern part of the state.
