Original Published: 9/14/2013 Fall is just around the corner and so is, yep, that's right, the flu season. When should you get vaccinated, and who's most at risk for getting the flu? Here's Melisa Raney with today's Health Minute. This year's flu shots are ready to go. Influenza vaccine manufacturers are already shipping out their stock for the 2013-2014 flu season. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 135-million doses of the vaccine are being produced. Large supplies should be available by this month and October. The CDC recommends everyone six months of age and older should get a yearly flu vaccine, no later than October. Although last year was a tough flu season in some parts of the country, it's difficult to predict at this time, whether this year will be as bad. That's because flu viruses are always changing. Young children, elderly and those patients with immune system problems are more susecptible to developing health problems if they cath the virus. The flu season usually peaks in January or February, but has peaked as early as the middle of fall. So, it's importantly to get vaccinated early, to make sure protection lasts the whole season.
