Mansfield Christian continued their hot start to the 2013 soccer season, knocking off rival Lexington 3-0.

The Flames took the lead just 8-minutes into the game off a direct kick by senior Josh Cochran that beat Minutemen goalie Kyle Dunlap near post. Cochran would later assist a Brendan Ernsberger goal at the 19:12 mark of the first half to give Mansfield Christian a 2-0 advantage. At the 33:11 mark in the second half Ernsberger would net his second goal to make it 3-0 Flames and they would take the game by that score.

Ernsberger says beating Lexington on the road would be a huge confidence booster for his squad moving forward. He says the team is very close on and off the field and that it helps them communicate with one another throughout the course of a game.

Flames head coach Jesse Rider agreed that it was a big win for the program, applauding his teams effort against a talented Minutemen squad, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. He says the biggest factors in their shutout win was the amount of pressure they put on Lexington's defense and capatalizing on scoring opportunities.

Mansfield Christian is now 6-1 on the season. They will be on the road again Saturday with another OCC opponent when they take on Madison.
