The Ashland County Young Republicans hosted the first of a series of three debates between Ashland City Mayoral candidates Incumbent Glen Stewart and challenger Kim Studeny Calhoon Thursday in the recital room of the Hugo Young Theatre on the campus of Ashland University.

It was standing room only for the hour long program that focused exclusively on the city’s finances. The candidates discussed balancing the city's budget, spending cuts and creating a grant-writing system to attract new businesses.

 "Both candidates came prepared to answer questions and did a fine job,"Andrew Keller, Ashland County Young Republicans Vice Chairman said.

The second and third debates are scheduled for Oct. 10 and Oct. 24 with to details to be announced. All debates are free and open to the public.

Seating will be on a first come, first served basis.
