The Mansfield Area Y has cut ties with the United Way of Richland County. United Way Director Bob Maxey says this is due to the United Way reducing its funding to the Y in recent years, and asking its partner agencies not to fund-raise on their own during the campaign. The United Way's annual allocation to the Y can now be distributed to its remaining 25 agencies. Mansfield Area Y Board Chairman Don Harris says separating from the United Way will allow the Y to be more aggressive in its own fund-raising efforts. Both Maxey and Harris say the parting is amicable, and each wishes the other the best in their future endeavors.
