Authorities Investigating Robbery Of Swifty Gas Station

The Richland County Sheriff's office is investigating an early morning robbery at the Swifty Gas Station, 899 Ashland Rd.  Sgt. Matt Mayer, of the Richland County Sheriff's Office, said the robbery occurred around 7:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

 He said the gas station clerk noticed a man standing outside the building as she was preparing to open the station.

 "She went outside because she thought the subject wanted to buy cigarettes. He walked up behind her, grabbed her and told her to give him the money," Mayer said.  

"The clerk pulled the money out of her front pocket and handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. He walked around the building and took off. Deputies tracked him to some residences and they lost him," Mayer said.

 Mayer said the clerk was not harmed. A canine from the Lexington Police Department was called to the scene to help search for the suspect.

 The suspect is described as a white male, 30-35 years old, 5'10" tall, weighing 150 pounds, with dark hair. He was wearing a blue hoodie.
