First place will be on the line on Friday in the OCC football race when 3-2 Ashland plays host to 5-0 Mansfield Senior. Both schools are undefeated in league play, both are coming off wins over previously undefeated teams. Mansfield downed Orrville last Friday 45-0, while Ashland handled West Holmes 48-21. While the Arrows have faced teams with speed this season in Wadsworth, Wooster and Sandusky, Arrows coach Scott Valentine says the Tygers have the most overall team speed on both sides of the ball. He adds that his defense will have to do what it did last week against the Knights and that is prevent the big play. Coach "V" also comments his team will have to win all three phases of the game, offense, defense and the kicking game. Ashland wide receiver and defensive back Jake Allton, says the team will really be pushed on defense stating Senior High's quarterback Jalen Reese has a big arm and the Tyger receivers have been able to get separation, find space and make catches. Something the Arrows can't have happen on Friday. The game will feature possibly the two best throwing quarterbacks in the area along with the two best sets of receivers. The Ashland/Mansfield contest is the WMFD Game of the Week. Watch the replay at midnight Friday and at 8:30 Saturday morning.
