Tygers Go To 6-0

Behind 125 yards rushing by Tyquan Vickers and 212 yards passing by Jalen Reese the Mansfield Tygers ran their record to 6-0 overall 3-0 in the OCC with a 30-14 win over the Ashland Arrows. Reese also threw two touchdown passes to Chek Washington of 63 yards and another to Antonio Sanderfer from three yards out as the Tygers ran out to a 17-0 lead. Ashland's Nich Zurcher threw for 161 yards on 16 of 36 passing with two touchdowns to Jacob Allton from 20 yards out and a ten yard scoring pass to Max Stringer. Zurcher also led the Arrows in rushing with 105 yards. Allton led the Arrows in receiving with nine catches for 129 yards. The Tygers also outgained the Arrows 345 to 268 in total yards. The game turned on two plays in the second half with Mansfield leading 17-7, Reese hit Washington with a 63 yard scoring play giving Mansfield a 24-7 lead. Then on the kickoff, Ashland return man Matt Peyton picked up a bouncing football inside his own five, was hit right away by Jaleel Taylor, lost the ball in the end zone and it was recovered for a touchdown by the Tygers Malon Samuel putting the Tygers up 30-7. With the loss the Arrows dip to 3-3, 2-1 in the OCC. The Tygers 6-0 start to the season is their best since 1933.
