Law enforcement, criminal justice, and government officials packed a banquet room at the Mansfield Holiday Inn Wednesday, for the annual meeting of the METRICH Enforcement Unit. METRICH has existed for 27 years, and how is in ten north-central Ohio counties, investigating drug trafficking and arresting the dealers. Its director is Mansfield Police Chief Dino Sgambellone, who says 2013 was a good year with the unit's objectives met or exceeded, and next year's goals are the same; to continue fighting trafficking in heroin and pharmaceutical drugs. The guest speaker was Steven Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. He commends the police and sheriff departments that participate in METRICH for working so well together. The meeting concluded with a plaque being presented to METRICH Detective Dawn Brown, who served from September 1988 until her retirement in April.
