Madison Heads To Arlin Field Friday

A year after having one of the best seasons ever at Madison, finishing 10-2, OCC co-champs and a two week run in the OHSAA playoffs, the Rams have had a rough year in 2013 standing at 3-6 after nine weeks. This Friday, Madison heads to Arlin Field to take on cross town rival 9-0 Mansfield Senior. The Tygers are already in the playoffs and will be at home in week 11 and in addition, will going after the school's first ever 10-0 regular season. With that in mind, will the Rams be treating this as their playoff game this season? According to Madison coach Sean Conway, he says no, because the game in and of itself is huge and means alot to both schools. The Rams have won the last two meetings winning 27-21 in 2011 and pounding the Tygers in the mud and rain at Ram Field 34-0 last year with the Rams doing most of their dammage on the ground with Alex Smith, Kale Huss and Kalvin Gordon. Huss and Smith have graduated, but Gordon returns with 1,215 yards and 15 touchdowns. But coach Conway says his Rams are a different team this year and will do what they have worked on this season. He also adds that the Tygers have the best team in area with an offense that is one of the best with running back Tyquan Vickers who has rushed for 1,435 yards with 13 touchdowns, along with quarterback Jalen Reese who has thrown for 1,958 yards and 19 touchdowns. To win Conway says we have got to control the line of scrimmage and get our share of turnovers while at the same time taking care of the football, something the Rams have had trouble with all season long. The Mansfield Senior vs Madison game will be the WMFD Game of the Week with playback at midnight and at 8:30am on Saturday morning. It can also be heard live on ESPN 1440 AM and 97.3 FM WRGM with the kickoff at 7pm.
