After spending roughly a quarter century in the North Central Conference, Ontario joined the Northern Ohio League in 2013 after the NCC disbanded. The Warriors struggled a bit in their inaugural season in the NOL on the football field, going 2-4 in league play, but the defending NCC champs are charged up to begin their journey in the new conference on the basketball court.

"We're excited about getting in the NOL conference." Long- time Ontario head coach Joe Balogh says. "We know it's gonna be a very competitive league, but I think our kids and our school are excited about being a part of it."

"Every game is gonna be a tough game, you can't have any letdowns." Senior point guard Tyler Boatwright says of NOL play. "We just gotta go into every game ready, with a lot of energy from the beginning of the game and just keep it going throughout."

Boatwright started at quarterback for the 5-5 Warriors during football season and says the transition to basketball is pretty seamless because he has such a strong love for the game. His favorite target on the gridiron was senior wide receiver Cameron Mack, who doubles as a forward on the hardwood, and says preparing for an NOL schedule doesn't differ much from what they were used to in the NCC.

"We just practiced hard." Mack says. "Kept the same things as we did in the other league, just carried it over to the NOL."

Mack and Boatwright will begin their third season as starters at Ontario, with Tyler returning as the teams leading assist man and Mack as the top scorer and rebounder. While the tandem is without a doubt the Warriors biggest weapon on the court, they will have big shoes to fill in terms of leadership Balogh says, and will look to them to engross those roles.

"Hopefully coming into this year they have an understanding of what it takes to achieve the things that we were able to achieve last year." Balogh says of the teams 12-0 NCC mark and sectional title. "But hopefully there's a hunger that they're gonna want more than that."

The Warriors open their season at home against familiar foe Bucyrus on November 29. The teams first league game will come the following Friday against Willard.
