Weekend travelers found the roadways rather treacherous on parts of Interstate-71 in Richland County, especially near the Ohio 39 interchange Saturday afternoon. Shortly before 3 p.m., a sudden snow and ice storm froze over the bridges and overpasses on both northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate and the result was no less than seven accidents occurring. Both directtions of the interstate were shut down for about a half-hour as crews worked to clear the accidents. No injuries were reported but troopers at the Mansfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol remind motorists to use extreme caution and slow down when adverse weather strikes, often times in am unpredictable way like it did on the interstate.
