School Specialty in Mansfield has made a significant contribution to area schools. The school supplies distribution center on Paragon Parkway donated $400,000 worth of science education supplies and materials to the nine high schools in Richland County. School Specialty stocks 32,000 items in its Mansfield distribution center, and the supplies were donated to be replaced by an updated inventory as the facility undergoes an expansion project. The items were set aside, with science and industrial arts teachers invited to take what they could use. School Specialty has four distribution centers, serving the United States and parts of Canada with every education-related product a school would need. The $4-million expansion of the Mansfield distribution center will be completed by April, increasing its employment from 75 full-timers to nearly 100. As many as 400 people work there during the summer months, when schools are placing large orders to prepare for the coming year.
