In an effort to curb alcohol related crashes this holiday season, Triple A stores throughout are Ohio are holding events to encourage Ohioans to celebrate responsibly.

This Friday from 9 to 5 p.m., the Mansfield Triple A store at 2114 Park Ave. West, will be hosting the third annual "First a Friend Then a Host" Holiday Mocktail competition.

Mansfield AAA Manager of Sales and Service, Arlene Walker, said on the day of the competition, store associates will create non-alcoholic cocktails or mocktails.

Walker said community members are invited to come in, sample the mocktails and vote on their favorite.

"The purpose of the event is to create awareness about responsible party giving during the holiday season," Walker said.

Recipes for the mocktails will be available for people to take and use at their holiday gatherings.

Guests will also receive a free 2013 "First a Friend, Then a Host Recipe Book," which includes winning recipes from the 2012 mocktail competitions.

This event is one of 22 Holiday Mocktail Competitions that will take place at AAA stores throughout the state during December.

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, 2012 alcohol contributed to 12,548 crashes and 470 deaths on Ohio roads.
