Concerto Competition Winners Announced

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) held its annual Concerto Competition on Dec. 10 at the Malabar Intermediate School Auditorium.

The concerto competition included fifteen members of this year’s Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. Conductor of the MSYO is Ettore Chiudioni.

 The two contest winners are Caitlin Lehman and Laura Grube, both violinists. Caitlin Lehman is a junior at Lexington High School, concertmaster of the Lexington High School Orchestra and co-concertmaster of the MSYO. She is a student of Cheryl Markley and the daughter of James and Teri Lehman. Caitlin performed the third movement of Lalo’s Symphonic Espagnole.

Laura Grube is a sophomore at Plymouth High School, a member of the high school’s band and co-concertmaster of the MSYO. She is the daughter of Mike and Janelle Grube and studies violin with Steve Domka. Laura played the first movement of Lalo’s Symphonic Espagnole.

The two winners will be featured soloists in the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra Spring Concert scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 4p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre.

Other participants included: Amy McFadden, violin, Jed McFadden, violin, Neil Goetz, trumpet, Adam Compton, trumpet, Kailyn Buyok, violin, Tim Gesouras, violin, Molly Schwall, clarinet, Kristina Confessor, violin, Cameron Kindred, trumpet, Susan Fain, cello, William MacDonald, trombone, Colin Henley, viola and Akila Venkataramany, violin.

The winners were selected by two adjudicators, Dwight Oltman, director of the Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Baldwin Wallace College and Eily Freeman Brown, Music Director and Conductor of the Bowling Green State University Philharmonic and Opera Theatre.
