A Norwalk man was killed in a snowmobile accident late Saturday night along the east side of Hartland Center Road, just north of U.S. 20 in Townsend Township of Huron County. The Norwalk post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says Gary Jenkins, 44, died in the accident when the snowmobile he was driving struck a culvert, ejecting him from the vehicle. The snowmobile then struck a tree and came to rest. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene by Huron County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Harwood. Jenkins was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which remains under investigation. Jenkins was taken from the scene by Citizens EMS to Mormon Funeral Home in Wakeman. The patrol was assisted at the scene by Townsend Township Fire Department, Citizens EMS, Huron County Coroner's Office and Norb's Towing.
