Original Published: 12/20/2013The final count has begun for the 17th annual MIX-106 FM Million Pennies for Christmas campaign. The first of 278 buckets, from 25 places throughout Richland County, started being brought into the Richland Bank branch on Lexington-Springmill Road Friday. The goal is to raise at least $10,000 for the Salvation Army in Richland and Crawford Counties. Captain Andrew Betts is spending his first Christmas in Mansfield, since moving here earlier this year and says he's never seen a fundraising effort quite like this. The coins are counted in machines at Richland Bank, and Marketing Manager Kristie Massa says they're happy to help. The total amount raised won't be known for a couple of weeks, but past Million Pennies for Christmas campaigns have raised as much as $20,000.
