The new Madison Middle School opens to students January 6th, with the community getting to see it during an open house January 2nd from 4-8pm. We will give you a sneak peek now of the 196,000 square foot, $36-million building that replaces the 88-year-old junior high. It includes an auditerium, combination auditorium and cafeteria with seating for 700, and a magnificent gym with seating for 18-hundred. Varsity basketball and volleyball games, and graduation ceremonies, will be held there. The school is also very high-tech with smart boards in the classrooms, security cameras throughout, lights that turn on when someone enters a room and off when the room is empty. Madison Middle School will house fifth through eighth graders, in separate wings and on separate floors, so the grade levels will be kept apart. Asbestos removal and demolition of the old Madison junior high begins January 13th.
