Richland County sheriff's and coroner's investigators are trying to determine how a 13-year-old boy was hanged Thursday afternoon in a barn at his family home.

The boy was found unresponsive near a rope swing on a home on Clever Rd. outside of Bellville. The boy's father Ron Erich told investigators he had not seen his son for two hours, and found him in the barn, where he routinely used the rope as a swing.

He started CPR as help was called. Sheriff's Major Joe Masi says the death is being investigated as either accidental or suicide, but not as a homicide as foul play is not suspected.

An autopsy is being performed in Summit County, but toxicology results will not be known for up to 12 weeks.

The boys parents own The Warrior on Park Avenue West in Ontario. The business is closed until further notice due to what's described as "a family emergency".
