Most teens will no longer be allowed to use tanning beds in Illinois in 2014. Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill into law in 2013 that bans people under 18 from using tanning beds. The governor says he wants to spare young people from what he calls 'serious and preventable' health issues. Opponents of the tanning ban argue it is bad for small businesses and parents should be the ones in charge of whether or not children can use the equipment. Chicago and Springfield already have bans on teen use of tanning beds. The American Academy of Dermatology says 8-percent of indoor tanners in the United States are teens.
