The Richland County Jail is taking a new and more efficient approach to getting X-Rays for sick or injured inmates.

Inmates have been taken to MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital for X-Rays, with two sheriff's deputies escorting them, at a cost of $51 per trip.

The commissioners Tuesday approved a one-year contract with a company that will come to the jail to do the X-Rays, for a flat fee of $60.

While the cost per X-Ray is $9 more, the change is expected save money on gasoline and man hours, and prevent an escape risk. About five to ten inmates need an X-Ray each year.
