A natural gas line sprung a leak Thursday morning on North Illinois Avenue in Madison Township.

The leak was relatively minor, apparently in a feeder line rather than the larger main line, but still forced several neighboring residents to leave their homes.

Madison Township Fire Chief Dave Kissel says Ohio Edison was removing a utility pole when it ruptured the gas line while digging.

Columbia Gas had the ruptured line repaired, and two evacuated residents returned home, by early afternoon.
