Richland County Emergency Management Agency Director Keith Markley resigned Tuesday. That's because he has announced his candidacy for Richland County Commissioner, as a Republican, for the seat being vacated at the end of this year by Ed Olson. Markley says his priorities are workforce development, and emergency preparedness after working for 27 years as a firefighter and 10 as E-M-A Director. Former Mansfield Fire Chief Mike Bailey was appointed as full-time interim E-M-A Director. The commissioners have set no time-frame for when Bailey's appointment would become permanent. They want to see how well he does the job, and consider whether to hire a deputy emergency management director.
