Mansfield Senior got off to an impressive start to their 2013-'14 campaign by ripping off 5-straight double-digit wins in a 2-week stretch. Then came the stunning 49-60 loss December 27 at Lexington, which has helped spark the Tygers intensity during practice.

"You want to make sure that doesn't happen again." Tygers senior forward Marquez Cobb says of their loss to the Minutemen. "You do whatever it takes, especially at practice, to make sure that it doesn't."

Cobb's junior teammate Naradin James agrees that practice has become more intense and says the loss at Lexington "was definitely a wake up call for us." James added, "You can't go into any game underestimating an opponent."

Mansfield Senior has certainly been taking their competitor's seriously since the squad's lone defeat, running off 3-straight wins in Ohio Cardinal Conference play by an average of 20 points per contest. The Tygers latest win over West Holmes on Friday put them in a first place tie with the Knights for the conference crown and has built some momentum for the squad heading into the second half of the season.

Second-year Tygers head coach JT Reese says the biggest reason the team has had success of late is their ability to make shots. Reese says the team has been accomplishing the goals they set before the season and believes they're on the right track for a tournament run.

As for the players, senior guard DeJorr Gibson says the team has aspirations of making a run to the state final four. A confident Gibson says, "That's our goal and we're gonna reach it."

But first thing's first for Mansfield Senior, as the 8-1 Tygers have a conference double-weekend coming up on the schedule. Friday night Mansfield Senior will host 3-6 Clear Fork, then go on the road to cross-town rival Madison's (4-7) new complex on Saturday evening.
