A $1-million bond has been set for a Mansfield man charged with the attempted murder. Jarmel Sutton, 27, was arraigned Wednesday in Mansfield Municipal Court before Magistrate Phil Naumoff.

Sutton is charged with the attempted murder in the Jan. 5 shooting of Eric Downs II on Burns Street. The 25-year-old was shot in the head, hand and hips.

The shooting allegedly occurred following a traffic accident involving Sutton and Downs.

Police say Sutton reportedly left and returned a short time later with Devonte and Delbert Evans. Downs answered the door, came outside, was pistol whipped and shot.

Sutton turned himself into Beachwood police Tuesday afternoon.

Sutton's legal counsel entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. Sutton was ordered to be placed on electronic monitoring and have no contact with the victim if he makes bond.

Sutton is being held in the Richland County Jail.

Co-defendants in the case, Delbert Evans, 25, and his brother Devonte Evans, 27, were arraigned Tuesday. Their bonds were set for $1 million a piece.
