At 10-4 in all games and 7-0 in the Mid-Buckeye Conference, the Mansfield Christian Flames are within reach of an outright MBC boys basketball championship. A win this week on the road over East Knox would give the Flames an outright MBC championship. Right now the Mansfield Christian holds a two game lead over the Bulldogs who stand at 4-2 in conference play and a win Friday would put the Flames at 8-0 in MBC play with two league games remaining against Loudonville next Friday and Mansfield St. Peter's on February 14th. Even though MC handled East Knox at home 69-57 in their first meeting back in December, coach John Kurtz is still concerned about the Bulldogs ability to shoot from the outside. Guard Stevie Brown says the team has to be ready to move up and down the floor as East Knox has shown good quickness. In addition to the conference, the team is also looking down the road to big non-league games against state ranked Buckeye Central who the Flames will see next Thursday in New Washington. Forward Caleb Young is looking to that game as good prep for the upcoming tournament where he hopes his team will able to make a run towards a district championship. The Division IV tournament draw is a week from this Sunday at Ontario High School.
