The real winter olympics are underway for the first time in four years, and so are the games at Sherman Elementary School in Mansfield. The second and third grade students, divided into nine countries, paraded into the gym Monday afternoon for the opening ceremonies and torch run.

An ice sculptor also made a torch to be displayed outside the school during the games. The Sherman Elementary winter olympics begin Tuesday, with the closing ceremonies and awarding of gold, silver, and bronze medals set for February 28th.

The countries the students represent are Poland, Switzerland, Great Britain, Japan, Austria, Germany, Canada, Finland, and the United States. Each team has learned their country's national anthem. The seven events include hockey, basketball, bobsled, luge, speed skating, curling, and a gymnastic floor routine.
