Most people would call this Karate, but instructor Reneta Music calls it a "Life Protection System"

"That means, we're not only protecting ourselves, but if we have a child or older person with us, we can learn how to protect their life also"

And local women will have the chance to learn the technique this Saturday at the Shelby YMCA. Reneta believes these classes help women in more ways than you'd think.

"I see a lot of people that are unsure of themselves. So, i like to help them with their confidence. Teaching them to do new, different things increases confidence in people. Plus, for women to be aware and keep themselves safe.. that's very important"

Reneta and her husband, Gary will teach the seminar Saturday afternoon from two to four pm. Women and Girls, ages thirteen and up are invited to attend. The cost is ten dollars for Y-members and fifteen for non-members.
