Love Is In The Air At Ohio Bird Sanctuary

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary celebrated Valentines' Day weekend with some feathered friends. The event, called Love is in the Air, is an annual event typically taking place around Valentines' Day.

 

Gail Laux, the sanctuary's executive director, explained the name of the event. "February is the breeding season for owls, and it matches up with (Valentines' Day). Throughout the day, all of our birds are out on the staff's hands so you can see them up close."

 

Laux mentioned another reason to have the event was to raise awareness about the Sanctuary and its abundance of animals.

 

"We're doing something for about the next month, it's called 'Adopt a Waterfowl'," she said. "With the cold temperatures, we're getting in birds that are fish-eaters that cannot find food, so we're having to tide them over for the next couple weeks. These birds are costing us about $10 a day in fish, so we're hoping for maybe an increase in donations to help us. All we're looking to do is keep some weight on them, keep them healthy until we get some open water and get them back out there."
