Lake Superior Almost Completely Frozen Over

This is what persistent, bitter cold can do to Lake Superior. Maps from the U.S. Navy and Canadian Ice Service show this much ice cover hasn't been seen on the lake in years. The Coast Guard is expected to call in ice breakers to open up lanes for shipping season throughout the Great Lakes. An associate professor with the University of Minnesota says the lake will start warming up soon and continue to do so through August, when water temperatures drop again.
