Mansfield Aggravated Murder Suspect Arraigned

Bond is set at $500,000 cash and personal recognizance for a murder suspect in Mansfield. Demetrius Lyles, 23,  was arraigned Monday morning on an aggravated murder charge in the shooting death early Saturday of  Lawrence Butler, 46,  inside Secretz Bar on Bowman Street.

Should he post bond and be released from the Richland County Jail, Lyles would be placed on electronic monitoring and prohibited from having contact with the victim's family.

Police say the shooting was the result of an earlier altercation between the suspect and victim. Police recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shooting from a creek at Johns Todd Park.

Lyles called the U.S. Marshal's Service Saturday night and told them he was on Birdcage Walk on the city's southeast side, where he was arrested.
