Agency Says Some Hospitals Over-Prescribing Antibiotics

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says many hospitals are over-prescribing antibiotics. And the practice is putting patients at risk. The CDC studied hundreds of hospitals and found some prescribed antibiotics at three time the rate of others. That's rendering many of the drugs less effective and making patients more vulnerable to other types of infections. The CDC recommends every hospital adopt an antibiotic stewardship or accountability program to monitor the use of the drugs.
