Mechanics Bank is building its eighth office, all in Richland County, with the new one at 65 Main Street in Bellville. Dozens of people braved the latest blast of winter weather for a ground-breaking ceremony Wednesday. President and C.E.O. Deborah Schenk says the new branch is a million dollar investment and will employ ten people. Bellville Mayor Darrell Banks looks forward to having the bank open in about six months, saying it will help improve the appearance and viability of the downtown area. Mechanics Bank has existed for 130 years, and employs 115 people.
