OhioHealth announced Thursday that Jean Halpin has been named president of OhioHealth MedCentral.

Halpin will assume the duties of Joe Chamberlain, acting president and CEO, who announced plans to leave the system in May.

Chamberlain has served as acting president and CEO since 2012 and previously served as vice president of Finance and chief financial officer at MedCentral.

Halpin will provide leadership for OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, OhioHealth MedCentral Shelby Hospital, MedCentral’s ambulatory network, and other programs and services.

She will assume her new position March 24 and will work alongside Chamberlain until his departure May 2.

“Jean’s knowledge of OhioHealth and strong leadership skills make her ideally suited to lead MedCentral,” said Mike Louge, executive vice president, OhioHealth. “Her wealth of experience will allow us to quickly integrate MedCentral into the OhioHealth family in a way that will benefit the entire Mansfield community.”

Halpin has been with OhioHealth for the last 22 years serving most recently as chief operations officer for OhioHealth Neighborhood Care.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me, not only to join the MedCentral family but the greater Mansfield and Shelby communities,” said Halpin. “MedCentral is at the beginning an era of growth and revitalization that will ensure the continued vitality of MedCentral and enable us to continue to provide the right care to those who need it, right here in this community.”

Halpin has held numerous clinical and administrative leadership positions since joining OhioHealth in 1992. She was instrumental in the development of OhioHealth Neighborhood Care including the OhioHealth Westerville Medical Center, which opened in 2009, and the OhioHealth Pickerington Medical Center, which is scheduled to open in 2015.

Most recently, Halpin has spent the past four months as a member of the team that finalized the design and development plans for OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield’s expansion.

Halpin joins MedCentral just weeks after the health system became a full member of the OhioHealth family. The MedCentral Health System officially joined OhioHealth on March 1 following a year-long due diligence process that concluded with a formal partnership agreement that was finalized in December.

Halpin received her Masters of Health Science degree from the University of Indianapolis and her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University.
