Memorial Luncheon Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary

The annual K.E. McCartney Memorial Luncheon reached a milestone this past weekend. 2014 is the 20th anniversary of the celebration that honors the late Kenneth McCartney. 

"We've been holding this event to raise money for a new democratic headquarters," McCartney's youngest son, Brian, explained. "Now, our focus is on the operation and maintenance of this building. It represents a lot more than one person. We, the McCartney family, are really proud to have our dad's name over the door, but we're even prouder of the fact that all these people have worked this hard over all these years to make this building a reality."

The McCartney building was formerly an old hardware store, renovated by the McCartney family in the 1990s. The extensive remodeling ended up enhancing the downtown area, providing the community with a place for meetings and other events to be held.

Even some of the younger members of the McCartney family made an appearance, with K.E. McCartney's young grandson showing up to support his grandfather. Ohio Auditor candidate John Patrick Carney was the keynote speaker at the luncheon, receiving standing ovations from the sizable crowd that had shown up for his rousing speech.
