The Richland County Transit Board Monday voted to redirect its shopping route to the city of Ontario that will be implemented immediately and instead, direct the route out to the Interstate-71/Ohio 13 shopping area. RCT Fiscal Officer Kathy Adams says the move is being made since cities like Mansfield and Shelby have provided much-needed funding to the transit and Ontario has not for several years. Due to other reductions in funding, RCT Board members also will implement a fare increase, beginning May 1. The single trip rate will go from $1.50 to $2 and fares for the elderly, disabled and students will be jumped from 75 cents to $1. The fare increases amount to a 25 percent increase on monthly passes and a 30 percent increase on single trip service.
