The USS Kidd is assisting the Malaysian government in finding the airliner that's been missing for nine days. Commander T.J. Zerr says they are looking for any trace of Flight 370, which disappeared with 239 people on board. "Right now we're in the Adaman Sea heading north toward the Nicobar Islands almost on the edge of the Indian Ocean based on an area the Malaysian Government has asked us to look at. We're looking for debris in the water," he says. "We are taking a look for any debris in the water. We have extra people standing watch to take a look out with binoculars and cameras and leveraging the advantage of the helicopters on board which allows us to check a lot more space in a lot less time than the ships. We are combining that effort. So far, nothing that leads us toward something related to the missing airliner. The waters are highly congested with fishing and commercial vessels. We find a lot of material in the water, whether it is fishing buoys or other trash or debris but nothing that would lead us to believe it was associated with the missing airliner." The plane disappeared on March 8 on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Officials say someone deliberately steered the plane off course.
