The Richland County Grand Jury has indicted three Mansfield men with a charge of attempted murder.

Jarmel Sutton, 27, Devonte Evans, 27, and Delbert Evans, 25, were indicted on charges of attempted murder with a firearm specification, felonious assault with a firearm specification, improperly discharging a fire into a habitation and tampering with evidence.

The charges stem from the January 5 shooting of Eric Downs II, 25, on Burns Street. The shooting happened following a traffic accident involving Sutton and Downs.

Police said Downs hit Sutton's vehicle in the area of Sprayer Lane. Sutton followed Downs to a residence in the 700 block of Burns Street and got into a confrontation with him.

Police said Sutton left and returned a short time later with the Evans brothers. Downs was pistol whipped and shot five times.
