Original Published: 3/21/2014The city of Ashland Friday celebrated the grand opening of the new Wendy's Restaurant Claremont Avenue. The original building opened in 1976 and was closed Dec. 13, 2013 to build the brand new facility. Zane Gross, Wendy's President/CEO of franchising for Wooster and Ashland, described the new image activation restaurant concept of the facility.  "It's a new design for the brand. It's the first one of this design in this area. The building is very open and contemporary," Gross said. Chad Donelson, Wendy's Vice-President of franchising for Wooster and Ashland, is also pleased with the new contemporary restaurant. "We have 15 stores all together. This store offers a new dining room and kitchen design for this area," Donelson said. Gross's father, Zane Gross Sr. was the first customer to be waited on. Zane said he was happy that his father could participate in the grand opening. "My dad has been in a nursing home since 2001. He never had an opportunity to come out to the grand openings of other restaurants we've opened. This was special because I wanted to honor my father and have him participate in the grand opening," Gross said. The new restaurant features flat screen TV's and a fireplace.
